Todd was recently featured in CNBC’s Millennial Money Series.

Todd Baldwin grew up in Sequim, WA, a small town two hours west of Seattle. He, his younger brother, and his older sister were all raised by a single mother. Todd witnessed his mother struggle to pay the bills and put food on the table, so he told himself that he would be a millionaire one day.
Baldwin got his first job at 12 years old shoveling manure for $3/hour. At 15 he started a lawn care business where he was able to make double the minimum wage, and at 17 he started a candy business at his high school. He started making money online when he was 18, and he began investing at 19. At 19 Baldwin went off to college where he met his wife but later dropped out of school to pursue other opportunities. Shortly after leaving school, Baldwin was raking in well over $100k per year, and he used that income to buy real estate. By the time he was 25 years old, Baldwin’s net worth crossed $1.2 million. He currently lives in a duplex with his wife, Angela. They live in one half and they rent out the other side. They plan on buying several apartment buildings in the coming years.

We asked Todd some questions to reflect on his real estate career, provide advice, and ask why he drinks coffee. Here’s what he had to say.

1. What are you building to make the world a better place?

To make the world a better place, I am building safe, clean, affordable housing in communities that are undervalued.

2. What do you want the world to remember you for doing?

I want the world to remember me for taking on the system and teaching financial literacy to underprivileged individuals.

3. What inspires or motivates you to do what you do?

Growing up with no money inspires and motivates me to keep going.

3. Tell us about your biggest failure and how you overcame it.

My biggest failure was dropping out of college. I overcame it by getting a job in sales and outworking everyone, and 9 months after leaving school I had a 6 figure income.

4. Why do you drink coffee? Is it the taste, experience, or caffeine?

There is nothing better than the enjoyment of a warm cup of coffee on a cold day.

5. What is one tip that you can give our readers on how they can challenge the status quo and become successful?

Most people have dreams and goals that are limited by the experiences of those who came before them. Learn how to dream again. Develop your mind to think beyond the four walls that you know. Anything is possible to those who are creative and ambitious enough.
